1.2 PRESENTING ARCHITECTURE COURT IN THE SUN

December 2, 2012 by Brian Lewis

To get published, architects need to get their work professionally photographed otherwise the ‘editor’s door will remain shut’. Good architecture that is published can take an architect’s work to a whole new level and open those doors that lead towards recognition and prestige.

Architectural photographers can serve as a bridge between architects, publishers and their publicists. On the one hand the architectural photographer knows which architects specialize in contemporary, colonial or vernacular architecture and which firms have work ready for publication. Because of this relationship architectural photographers become a useful contact for the architectural publicists. On the other hand architectural photographers will have contacts with architectural publicists and architectural magazine publishers that can help architects get their work published.

The Hall of Justice project in Trinidad designed by Anthony C. Lewis Partnership [now acla:works] in association with Howell Killick Patridge & Amis is an example of how a project can get featured in an international publication. My photographs appeared on the cover and feature article of Building, an international magazine. The Hall of Justice is a huge project and the commission took weeks to complete but the images are still an asset today and have provided real value and have been published many times over their 25 year life.
